David Martin

It is with great shock & sorrow that I have today learned of Dave's passing on Saturday. Thanks to the website for putting this information out.

As a recent member of the Tams I only have limited knowledge of Dave but will always remember with great fondness the three productions we appeared in together, his amazing after show party salads, and his support and guidance as an actor.

Dave will indeed be missed. He was a core member of the Tams and a small part of the company will be missing for some time to come.

Matthew Becker.

Re: David Martin

I too have only been a member for a short time, but Dave has been present at just about every event that I've been to, and I acted with him in Cash on Delivery. I shall miss him very much, for his companionship, helpfulness and just his simple nice-to-be-with quality.

Rest peacefully, Dave, and I hope there's enough music whereever you now are.

Re: David Martin

What a shock that Dave should deteriorate so quickly.   It doesn't seem long since we were all together for the showing of the 'Cash On Delivery' DVD - and, although he said then that he had not been too well, I had no idea that his illness was so serious.   While a quick exit from life's stage can perhaps be a blessing (rather than lengthy suffering), I regret the lack of an opportunity to say 'farewell' or to share just one more of Dave's stories.

As others have already commented, Dave contributed to Tams in many ways.   It will certainly be strange for him not to be present when we next do a Get In or Get Out.   But at least Dave has left me/us with an indelible memory: at the end of 'Cash On Delivery' when he appeared in the doorway after being struck by lightning and (presumably) falling off the roof.   There he was, all singed and dishevelled - almost like a latter-day version of Jon Pertwee's scarecrow !   Marvellous.

Farewell, Dave.   And thanks for all the laughs.

Re: David Martin

When i joined the Tams last summer Robin asked if I'd to help with set building and that's how I first met Dave.  I was immediately captivated and intrigued: he was witty, clever, opinionated, a true gentleman and he NEVER stopped talking!  The set building team laughed their way through projects, put the world to rights in the kitchen and Dave was an integral part of that happy gang. He and I joked about 'stripping together' (wallpaper of course!) and  discovered we both loved jazz with a special penchant for MJQ.
Sadly, I didn't have the privilege of knowing him for as long as so many other Tams, but I'm glad to have met him, happy that we got on so well and incredibly sad that he has died.

Re: David Martin

How sad and what a shock!

I have only been a member for a short while but in that time Dave made a big impression on me. He always made me feel welcome especially on the couple of occasions I helped with building the set. He was a constant source of interesting chat whilst we worked with hammers and drills. He was always willing to get stuck in and help with whatever needed doing... he will be very much missed.

Re.Dave Martin

I still cannot really believe it!! I met Dave in 1996 during my first production with the Tams and have acted with him on very many occasions since. He was reliable and fun to act with - and always there back stage if needed to help with something.

He was a valuable member of the Tams, as cast and crew. It is not going to be quite the same with out him.

Goodbye Dave - Rest in peace.

Re: David Martin

Dave was a legend and I'm going to miss him so much!
When I decided to blow my nose on his tie during my emotional scene as Brenda in Cash on Delivery, he applauded my hamming it up! Infact before production he gave a me a book; 'The Art of Coarse Acting', I shall treasure this.
We also swapped Lee Evans DVDs and videos (he didn't actually own a DVD player) and I shall miss discussing comedy, music and pretty much everything else with him!
Without wanting to sound too gushy, I consider it a privelege to have known him. Rest in Peace Dave xxx
