Outline
This will be our first opportunity to use the Edgcumbe Theatre at Devonport High School for Boys. Many of you will be familiar with this cricketing comedy, not least because the play was shown on television and it was later developed (in the 1990s) as a mini-series on TV. The basic details are as follows:
Set in a cricket pavilion, Outside Edge deals with an eventful Saturday afternoon in the lives of 5 men and 4 women. Roger struggles to keep together his team for their match against fearsome opponents, while the wives and girlfriends of his players help and hinder to devastating (and hilarious) effect.
First staged at Hampstead Theatre with Julia Mackenzie and Maureen Lipman, this comedy enjoyed a hugely successful West End run before being made into a TV play starring the late Paul Eddington.
While the play is ostensibly about cricket, it’s actually about relationships – and Richard Harris is soon lifting the lid on all manner of angst and extra-marital shenanigans among the characters.
