THE PLAY
Set in the isolated farmhouse home of once great playwright Sidney Bruhl, Deathtrap is a comedy thriller for 5 actors.
Sidney Bruhl, famous for his hits “the Murder Game” and “In For The Kill” amongst others is down on his luck: Struggling with writers block and without a success for some time. Then, in the post, comes “Deathtrap”, a new play by unknown dramatist Clifford Anderson. Sidney recognises Deaththrap is a winner and the kind of hit he hasn't had in a long time. Sydney plots with his reluctant wife Myra how best to “appropriate” Deathtrap. Clifford is invited over for a master class in writing with “The Master Playwright” himself. But how far is Sidney prepared to go for another success? Events soon spiral out of control and things take a sinister turn as it soon becomes clear Clifford has some ideas and plot twists of his own. Throw into the mix Sidney's clairvoyant neighbour Helga ten Dorp and things really start to get interesting! By turns thrilling and comedic Deathtrap will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout.
From the author of “Rosemary's Baby”, “The Stepford Wives” and “The Boys From Brazil”, Deathtrap proved a huge success on it's release with the original production running non-stop for four years on Broadway. The play was subsequently made into a film featuring Michael Caine and Christopher Reeve.
